Be careful, Pulse Jets are addictive!

Ok, You might be wondering what a pulse jet is. Well, it's pretty much one of the cooler things in life. There are two main types of Pulse Jets out there, Valved and Valveless. I tend to favor the valveless ones because of their simplicity. They have NO MOVING PARTS. That's right all it is, is a tuned pipe that fuel is injected into and then ignited. Once the engine is running it ignites itself and all it needs is fuel. Ok that sounds really easy, but there is a bit more to it than that. Being "tuned" creates a bit of difficulty. Scientists have tried for the past 60 years to completely understand the exact workings of a pulse jet and they can only ever get close. That being said, it's a bit tricky designing one yourself. Luckily their are a lot of well know, good running plans out there. A good place to start is www.Pulse-Jets.com. All you need is some basic mechanical skills and have the ability to weld and you too can become engulfed into the world of Pulse Jets. Now that I have a bit of your attention about the simplest jet engine ever invented, here is a cool video of the largest one I have made so far:

Makes you want to go out and buy a welder doesn't it?

Next Week I am going to show you how to build a Jam Jar Pulse Jet engine that not only sounds cool, but puts on a cool light display. Stay Tuned!!!
